Aster

Asteraceae

Category: Flowers

Asters bloom heavily in fall with masses of small, starry flowers in purple, blue, magenta, pink, or white. Bees and butterflies will flock to your asters in fall, making it a staple in pollinator gardens. Unlike the shorter wildflower White Woodland Aster, many asters grow quite tall and are best suited to the back of the garden.

Growing from Seed

Asters are difficult to grow from seed, purchasing plants is recommended. To grow from seed, refrigerate seeds after sowing for 4-6 weeks.

Planting Considerations

Because of their size, ssters are best in the back of your garden. Leave plenty of room for asters as they can grow up to 3' (1 m) wide. Nursery plants can be planted through summer right up to first frost.
